What I’m reading now

stacked books; titles include: The EMDR Revolution, The Sorrows of Work, My Bright Abyss, Practices for Embodied Living, Stories of Therapy, Stories of Faith, The Inheritance Games

Lately, I’ve been drawn to the simple, singularly-minded act of reading a tangible book, free from the ever-constant distractions of screens. A colleague recently reflected that I was “lucky” to have time for reading, and I took that to heart. Yes, it is delightful and not always guaranteed that I can squirrel away minutes and sometimes hours to read a book in the coziness of my home–on the sofa, on my bed, with Mochi cuddled up next to me, with a mug of tea nearby. Sometimes, it’s just a few lines while I’m brushing my teeth, or while I wait for my  next client to log on. It is a rich way to engage my pre-frontal cortex to focus, when so many temptations nibble at me. My reading reflects what I feel drawn to, what feels enriching personally and professionally, and what feels like an escape. It is an opportunity to connect with people (writers) who get the transformative value of carefully chosen words. By reading, I am discovering new horizons and ways of existing and being in this bright, beautiful, crazy world. It is an invitation to stay awake. What do you feel drawn to read lately?
